Octavarium is album by the band Dream Theater. Dream Theater has crafted the album, Octavarium, so it circles around the single concept of the octave. By starting with this single idea of the octave, the created an album that is both complex and artistically unique. Can we do the same with writing? Some would say that music has nothing to do with writing, but I would contend that we have much to learn from music and other artforms. In this episode, I talk about the idea of creating art around a central idea and show how a simple premise when creating art can help bring about an artistically complex end.
