Rule # 5 If You Can’t See It, You Can’t Make Your Readers See It

If you can’t see it, you can’t make your readers see it. If you can’t see it, you can’t write about it, so it’s important to know what you are conveying. For Rule #5, I talk about the necessity of knowing what you are talking about when you are writing. If you want to write something that you know nothing about, you need to take time to understand that thing. For non-fiction, this requires close reading, but for every time of writing, it requires time for you to ruminate about the topic. For fiction, you will have to kick your imagination into gear (which is why fiction writing is so much more fun).
