Paradigm shifts do not happen every day, and in writing, paradigm shifts seem to be something that happens only every half decade. Because of this, there is a temptation to niche down when writing. Some would call this choosing a genre. The reason behind this is to make what you write fit into a specific market. When you write and there is already a market for what you write, it is more likely that you are going to sell books.
